Genee is the North East and North West Hub for Investors in the Environment (iiE), a nationally recognised environmental accreditation scheme. iiE provides a clear, structured framework that helps organisations of all sizes and sectors establish robust environmental management systems, ensuring they reduce their environmental impact while improving efficiency and sustainability.

Genee has undertaken several funded projects to support the North East’s drive to Net Zero. These include:

• Going Green Together: A project dedicated to assisting voluntary, community, and social enterprise sector organisations in developing effective environmental management systems through subsidised access to iiE and additional training sessions.
• Enterprising Durham: Designed to help start-up businesses in County Durham, this initiative embeds sustainability into business operations from inception, fostering a new generation of environmentally conscious enterprises.

Genee plays a pivotal role in regional environmental collaboration. We work closely with Net Zero North East England, facilitating the Waste & Resources Planning Group. This initiative brings together partners from across the region to explore innovative ways to manage waste and resources more effectively, directly contributing to the North East’s Net Zero goals.

Additionally, Genee is the secretariat for the North East Recycling Forum (NERF), a networking platform for the waste and recycling sector to share best practice. Recently, we launched a like-minded forum for the North West, the North West Resources Forum.
